HILLTOP HOME

Set on a hilltop in Cleveland Park with a spectacular view of the National Cathedral, this Craftsman bungalow had an odd mix of large ground floor spaces and small bedrooms. It offered the additional challenge of an existing underground garage that could not be disturbed.

The design solution required cantilevering a two-story addition over the garage and rebuilding the main stair of the house. At the First Floor, a new centrally located Kitchen opens into a new Family Room and the existing Dining Area. At the Second Floor, the extended stair provides access to a new Master Bedroom suite and expanded and renovated bedrooms and bathrooms. The new L-shaped footprint provided a natural spot for an outdoor deck for dining and gathering.
